Pressed Flowers
Pressed flower vases, cards, magnets, and bookmarks
For 25 years, creating notecards from pressed flowers has been Jan’s hobby. She uses color, shape, and texture on fine quality paper to create one-of-a-kind designs that inspire harmony with the natural world. Her home is in Sebastopol, the dining room table is her workshop, and her source of inspiration is her garden and public spaces she discovers on her rambles.
“I love picking flowers and leaves, and I love every step of the creative process…noticing when specific fower come into bloom, harvesting, pressing, sorting, storing, and collaging. The nuances of each specimen entertain me as I highlight the natural splendor of each element of a piece.”

Over time, Jan has learned which flowers dry the best. She uses the trusty phone book system of pressing and an oven with a pilot light as the drying space. Laying out the final design is always a welcome creative challenge — a sort of meditation — noticing the nuances of each flower and leaf to make harmonious matches.
