Diane Price
I’ve been a resident of west Sonoma County for over 31 years and I’ve always been a frustrated artist. I played with all kinds of different crafts, but was always looking for something more.
Finally in 2005, while at home sick I asked my husband to pick up a few art books while he was out running errands. That was the slow beginning.
I started with bottles. I would boil the bottles to get the labels off, paint them with acrylic paint, (beige or white) and wa-la – I had my canvas.
I then moved to tiles – another handy item I had at home. I drew flowers and dogs and ladies faces but my true love has always been
what I call ‘tall ladies’.
I found subway tiles, which are long and narrow and these kind of fit the bill, so I drew ladies to my hearts delight.
Of course tiles are a one time product. If you draw one you really like and someone buys it, it’s gone forever. I started to miss some of my favorites and hoarded specific ones that I liked.
I have a very small house and too much of that hoarding could become an issue – so – I went out and bought drawing paper. To some this would have been a logical first step – but for me it had been a long process of learning how to draw, learning what I like to draw and learning to believe in myself.
I hope that you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it. It gives me great peace and happiness and is always a learning and growing experience.
